Suspect arrested for finding bodies in suitcases at famous British bridge

LONDON: British police arrested a man on Saturday after two suitcases believed to contain the remains of two men were dumped on a famous bridge.

The suitcases were discovered on Wednesday after police received a report of a man behaving suspiciously on the Clifton Suspension Bridge in Bristol, southwest England.

“Detectives have arrested a man in connection with the investigation into the discovery of human remains on the Clifton Suspension Bridge,” the Metropolitan Police said.

The 24-year-old suspect was arrested at a major train station in Bristol and is due to be taken to London for questioning later on Saturday.

“Police are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident,” they said.

London-based police took over the investigation after evidence suggested the wanted man had travelled from the British capital to Bristol on Wednesday morning.

Officers found further human remains during a search of an apartment in west London.

Police believe there is a connection with the human remains found in Bristol and that they involve two male victims, both of whom were known to the arrested man.

Designed by pioneering engineer Isambard Kingdom Brunel, the Clifton Suspension Bridge is one of the oldest surviving suspension bridges in the world.

Opened in 1864, the bridge over the Avon Gorge is one of Bristol’s most popular tourist attractions and a landmark of the city.
