Ely Watercolor Club exhibition from 17 to 21 July

Local artists will be exhibiting their works at Miners Dry starting Wednesday.

Members of the time-honored Ely Watercolor Club will once again this summer present hundreds of fine examples of their paintings, gift bags and greeting cards in the Miners Dry building, Wednesday to Sunday, July 17-21, 10am-5.30pm.

Her paintings cover a wide variety of subjects and techniques and have attracted public interest over the years.

The watercolorists have been offering the exhibition every year since its founding 44 years ago.

Past members included founder Marguerite Hogan and other notable painters such as Alberta Olson, Helen Kuehlman, Lois Struna, John Pierce, Myrna Kirkman, Sue Smith, and Gerry Ryberg. Examples of their work can be seen on the walls of the Ely Area Credit Union.

The works of current members are in the collections of local residents and many visitors from Minnesota, other states and countries who visit the exhibition each year.

The 2023 show had over 1,200 guests viewing nearly 1,000 works on a variety of themes and techniques.

Current members of the club include well-known names: Claire Taylor, John Weidemann, Sandy Brandley, Holly Rom, Diane Levar, Scott King and Cecilia Rolando; new members include Nadine Long and Karl Everett.

Several of these artists participate in the Ely Art Walk, have had NLAA art exhibitions at the State Theater, and solo exhibitions at various regional art galleries.

The artists paint individually but then come together for this annual exhibition at the Dry. They meet once a month at Frandsen Bank to present current work and plan the major exhibition and sale.

Members paint diligently all year in advance of the Ely Watercolor Club show and sale and ask that you mark your calendars for next week’s show!
