Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest: Who won the annual 4th of July binge-a-thon? (Watch Video)

Patrick Bertoletti has earned the coveted Mustard Belt.

The 26-year-old Chicago native won the men’s title at Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest on Thursday by eating 58 hot dogs in 10 minutes.

The competitive eater succeeded 16-time champion Joey Chestnut, who consumed a whopping 62 frankfurters in 2023. (That was somehow 14 frankfurters less than his record of 76 frankfurters in 2021.)

Before the men’s competition, Miki Sudo won the women’s title, devouring a record-breaking 51 sausages in 10 minutes, beating her victory from the previous year by 11.5 sausages. She is now a 10-time champion.

Chestnut had been barred from participating in Nathan’s annual drinking marathon on July 4. The eternal Viennese Winner recently signed a speaking deal with Impossible Foods that violates brand exclusivity rules.

“We are devastated to learn that Joey Chestnut has chosen to represent a competing brand that sells plant-based hot dogs rather than participate in the 2024 Nathan’s Famous Fourth of July Hot Dog Eating Contest,” a spokesperson for Major League Eating previously told TVLine. “MLE and Nathan’s have gone to great lengths over the past few months to accommodate Joey and his management team by agreeing to the entry fee and allowing Joey to participate in a competing unbranded hot dog eating contest on Labor Day. For nearly two decades, we have operated under the same basic hot dog exclusivity terms. However, it appears that Joey and his managers have prioritized a new partnership with another hot dog brand over our long-standing relationship.”

Meanwhile, a spokesperson for Impossible Foods has issued a statement of support for Chestnut, arguing that “meat eaters shouldn’t limit themselves to just one sausage.”

The 16-time champion will instead face his longtime rival, six-time winner Takeru Kobayashi, in the live Netflix special.
