DVIDS – News – Theodore Roosevelt Carrier Strike Group conducts joint maritime activities with the Indian Armed Forces

The Theodore Roosevelt Carrier Strike Group (TRCSG) operated jointly with U.S. Air Force, Indian Navy, and Indian Air Force forces in the Indian Ocean on July 12, 2024.

This joint maritime activity promoted interoperability between the two key defense partners and underscored their shared commitment to maintaining a free and open Indo-Pacific. The U.S. and Indian forces focused on improving joint maritime situational awareness and information sharing, enhancing interoperability in resupply and logistics, and enhancing joint air-to-air capabilities.

Participating units include the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71), Carrier Air Wing 11 and the Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyer USS Daniel Inouye (DDG 118). Indian forces include the guided missile destroyer INS Visakhapatnam (D66), the supply ship INS Aditya (A59) and two Su-30 fighter aircraft of the Indian Air Force.

The Indian Navy regularly participates in multilateral exercises with U.S. naval forces throughout the Pacific, including in Southwest Asia and coastal Africa. In addition to the group exercise, the Indian Navy is also active in lead roles with the U.S. Navy and other allies and partners in the ongoing Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) 2024 exercise in Hawaii.

USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71) is currently deployed with Carrier Strike Group Nine after conducting this joint maritime activity in the 7th Fleet area of ​​operations.

The 7th Fleet is the U.S. Navy’s largest forward-deployed numbered fleet and regularly interacts and operates with allies and partners to maintain a free and open Indo-Pacific region.
