Lightning strike in downtown Springfield caught on camera

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – A 22News viewer sent in a video as thunder and lightning rolled through the area again Thursday evening.

Justin Maynard shot this video behind the police station on Worthington Street in Springfield.

Due to the extreme heat and the risk of strong to severe thunderstorms, the 22News Storm Team weather warning remains in effect.

A heat warning with heat index values ​​between 95 and 105 degrees is in effect for Hampden and Hampshire counties until 7 p.m. Friday evening.

Friday will be another hot and humid day, but not quite as hot as the last few days. Temperatures will climb into the 90s this afternoon and it will be very muggy. Skies will be partly to mostly cloudy, with the chance of showers and thunderstorms, especially in the afternoon. Some storms could bring very heavy rain, gusty winds, hail and frequent lightning.
