The 10th hole at Montour Heights Country Club features a lava rock fairway bunker | The Elite 18

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. (KDKA) – Montour Heights Country Club was designed by the legendary Pete Dye and its 10th hole is extra special with a fairway bunker filled with lava rocks.

The par 4 10th hole opens the back nine holes with a unique framing of trees on the right and rocks on the left.

“The hole is pretty well defined,” said head golf professional Alex Megrey.

The hole features a typical lava rock bunker that runs along the left side of the fairway and comes into play on the tee shot.

“You can be as aggressive as you want off the tee,” Megrey said. “If you want to hit it a little further, you’ve got to tackle the shredded charcoal waste area, which is pretty unique at Montour. That’s a cool risk-reward tee shot for you.”

The 10th hole can be played up to 390 meters from the back tees.

An ideal tee shot favors the right side of the fairway, where there is more space than it appears from the tee box.

If you manage to reach the charcoal bunker, you can bring your club to the ground there, which will help you get a feel for the unique surface.

An approach shot that is too far from the green can be a big problem, so it is better to opt for a short shot.

Once you’re on the putting green, there aren’t many easy putts. If you go home with a par, you should feel happy and satisfied.
