Anna Benson to Dr. Phil – “I’m the most famous baseball wife since Marilyn Monroe”

Anna Benson to Dr. Phil – “I’m the most famous baseball wife since Marilyn Monroe”

That’s just one line hinted at in a preview of Dr. Phil’s big TV interview with Anna Benson, the estranged wife of former major league player Kris Benson. The show is set to air next Wednesday (check your local listings for time and channel) and will apparently take a deep dive into her erratic and, at times, very dangerous behavior.

As you may recall, Anna Benson broke into her husband’s home in July armed with a pistol, knife, metal baton and loaded ammunition belt, all while wearing a bulletproof vest, and demanded $30,000 from Kris Benson. Kris Benson was unharmed in the incident, but some property, including a computer, was damaged. Anna Benson later pleaded guilty to the bizarre attack and just two weeks ago received a 15-year suspended sentence with mandatory three months of therapy.

Her time with Dr. Phil – who also doubles as a TV personality and psychologist – doesn’t count toward that therapy, and it’s painfully clear from the preview video that her appearance on the show wasn’t well thought out. Judging by the clips, she’s still a clearly misguided woman, and her comment about being the most famous baseball wife since Marilyn Monroe is hardly the worst of it.

When Benson was asked about the gun she was carrying that day, she showed no regrets: “It’s a great gun,” was her response.

Her thoughts during the incident: “I was actually lying on the bed and thought we were going to have sex.”

When asked why the police didn’t shoot her at the scene, she said: “Because I’m a tough bitch.”

“I know a lot about defense, I know how to handle a gun, and if you want to take me out, you’re going to have to be pretty damn good and perched on a mountain with a really long rifle.”

If you like watching train accidents on TV, this interview with Anna Benson might be just the thing for you.

Overall, however, this is a deeply disturbing and sad situation. One can only hope that Benson can somehow step away from the spotlight long enough to get her life back on track, surround herself with people who have her best interests at heart, and hopefully become a productive member of society again.
