Legion Baseball: Fargo Post 400 aims to return to the American Legion World Series

SINCE THE PETE TOURNAMENT, THE POST 400 STARS HAVE BEEN A TOP BASEBALL TEAM IN NORTH DAKOTA.

FARGO, ND (KVRR)–The Fargo Post 400 Stars baseball team is in top form. Head coach Donn Bryant praises the players.

“We have great kids,” Bryant said. “We have 18 great kids on this team that play for each other instead of themselves, and they’re not arrogant. They just want to win and have fun, and that’s what’s helped us, you know, having those kids.”

Since the Jim Petterson Invitational in Fargo the weekend of June 28-30, the Fargo Stars have looked like a completely different team over 400. Coming into the Pete, the Stars had a season record of 9-11. Eight games later, they had a record of 17-11, winning every game in the Pete tournament and the three games that followed.

The team says the key to success is a balanced game.

“I think our pitching is really good for us,” Gunnar Majerus said. “We have a lot of good pitchers right now who are throwing a lot of strikes, and then our hitting … we’re hitting well when we need to.”

Coach Bryant agrees.

“We have a pretty good group of guys that play really good defense,” Bryant said. “So we tell them to just let them hit and let us play, and that’s what they’ve done. We have great outfielders and our infielders always make good plays. So the key is for our pitchers to throw strikes. We need to, you know, score runs, but they’ve been good at scoring runs.”

The Stars made it to the Legion Baseball World Series in 2021. Of course, the team would love to achieve that feat again. The goal is simple: to play their best baseball at the end of the summer.

“I just want them to play their best baseball and see where it goes,” Bryant said. “If that means doing well in the state tournament, so be it, but I just want them to play their best baseball at the end of the year. They’re a young team, so we just want to keep getting better.”

Majerus believes this year’s team can accomplish what the 2021 team did.

“I think we’re doing really well right now,” Majerus said. “When (the 2021 team) went (to the World Series), they were kind of a .500 team. So I think, you know, we’re right there and we can do that, too.”

It is not yet known whether the Stars will reach a state or regional championship. But one thing is certain: this group is having a lot of fun achieving this.
