Harry Styles sings a surprise duet with Stevie Nicks in honor of Christine McVie

Harry Styles surprised his fans by sharing the stage with Stevie Nicks at a concert in London on Friday night to pay tribute to the Fleetwood Mac singer’s former bandmate Christine McVie.

The duo sang a duet of two of Nick’s most popular songs, “Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around” and “Landslide,” to celebrate McVie’s 81st birthday.

“Since the end of last year and since Christine’s death, I’ve wanted to say something about her at the end of the show and I asked Harry to do that with me. And it’s a lot to ask of someone to sing a heavy song about a best friend who died so suddenly and sadly,” Nicks told the rapt audience at BST Hyde Park.

“What I want to tell you is that Christine was Harry’s girl, she was my girl, she was your girl, and she loved you all, and today would have been her birthday.”

Nicks, 76, held the 30-year-old pop singer’s hand as she spoke about McVie. He appeared emotional but kept his composure.

Styles wore a blue suit and an embroidered songbird pin, a tribute to Fleetwood Mac’s “Songbird,” a song from their hit 1977 album “Rumours.” McVie sang the melody.

Before the performance, which featured the British heartthrob playing guitar, Nicks also told her fans that they had helped her cope with McVie’s sudden death by allowing her to perform.

“When I was little, my mother always said to me: When I was hurt, she always said, ‘Stevie, when you’re hurt, you always run on stage,'” the singer recalls. “And that’s exactly what I’ve been doing since Chris died.”

Her death certificate was released the following April and revealed that she had suffered an ischemic stroke, which occurs when blood flow to certain areas of the brain is restricted.

Cancer was also detected in her body, but its origin is unknown.

Following her death, Styles paid tribute to the legendary musician by playing “Songbird” during a December 2022 concert in Chile, part of his popular “Love on Tour” tour.

When he finished the ballad, he blew a kiss in the air and said, “Thank you, Christine.”

In a handwritten note she shared online after news of her death broke, Nicks called McVie her “best friend in the whole world since the first day of 1975.”

She expressed her regret that she could not say goodbye to her friend in person and concluded her letter with a song lyric from the band Haim.

“I had a best friend but she’s gone / I wish I could see her again now / You always remind me that memories remain / These arms reach out,” the lyrics say, among other things.
