Columbus youth explore career opportunities with help from Boys and Girls Club

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — The Boys and Girls Club of Central Ohio is partnering with local organizations and businesses to provide local youth with numerous career opportunities after high school.

On Friday, they started at Huntington Bank in Columbus to learn the ins and outs of banking. Bank executives gave a presentation and showed the kids around, showing them the company culture and the many different career opportunities in banking.

In addition to learning how to become a bank teller, the youth explored opportunities in sales, mergers and acquisitions, information technology (IT) and more. They also sat down with Huntington leaders to learn how to create an impressive resume and prepare for an interview, whether for a career in banking or other professions.

Most of the children did not have much knowledge of banking when they left Friday’s experience, but many said the day at Huntington sparked their interest.

“I definitely hope to learn more, not just about Huntington, but about banks in general and how they work and how they are structured,” said Jalik K., a Boys and Girls Club participant.

He said he wanted to apply what he learned in real life.

Banking was just the first area the Boys and Girls Club youth explored. Throughout the month, they can also attend events highlighting careers in STEM, business and aviation.
