Looking for love: Pet adoption party matches dogs with families for life

Dogs available for adoption are available at Pups & Pour, a meet-and-greet adoption event hosted by Babylon Animal Shelter in Villages Vines on Saturday.

BABYLON, NY – The Babylon Animal Shelter is full, even though 4.1 million animals are adopted from the shelter each year and approximately 920,000 cats and dogs are euthanized.

On Saturday, the shelter is partnering with dog-friendly organization Village Vines to help adoptable dogs find their forever families, culminating in a speed-dating event with wine and other treats.

“Our shelter is full and we are in desperate need of adoptions or even foster homes that can save a dog’s life,” Christine Franke, a longtime volunteer at the shelter, told Patch.

While plenty of puppy dog eyes are sure to tug at some heartstrings, there will also be wine, “fantastic” basket raffles and gift certificate raffles, Franke added.

Lately, the shelter has been writing love letters about its residents, including Delicious Diesel, the shelter’s “Godfather Louie,” the beautiful Bella, and Hunky Handsome, who is still available.

Although this is the first Pups & Pour in a newly opened Village Vines, being especially dog-friendly was a goal from the start for Frank and Franceska Genovas. The father-daughter duo wanted to create “a place that feels like home and offers more than just wine and spirits,” Francesca told Patch in May.

“It’s dog-friendly all around and offers treats and water for puppies,” she said.

Pups & Pour takes place on July 13th from 12pm-2pm at Village Vines, 35 John Street in Babylon.
