Plans for the former home of the Playboy Club in Vernon are taking shape.

Vernon Mayor Anthony Rossi had previously stated that the property had already been sold in March. In a Facebook post, he announced that the sale had been completed and that the city’s lawyers had declared the transaction legal on Friday.

The Sussex County location was most recently known as Legends Resort & Country Club and replaced the Playboy Club after it closed in the early 1980s.

After Legend closed, other companies tried to buy the properties. Hedge fund Liberated Energy wanted to offer $12 million for the site in 2018. Then Vernon Howard Burrell offered the current owner guidelines, but they were rejected because they were too lenient for the next buyer.

Here’s what we know about the new owner and what to expect at the former location of the Playboy Club.

Mayor of Vernon announces new hotel

Rossi announced on his Facebook page that the Route 517 property had been sold to a Lockwood Hotels affiliate.

The plan calls for a 300-room international brand hotel, a world-class “super spa,” 150 condominiums and top-notch concerts, the mayor said.

According to Rossi, more information about the new property will follow in the future.
