LL Cool J addresses rumors of facing Jay-Z in the club

During a sit-down interview with Charlamagne Tha God, LL Cool J was asked about his alleged fights with Jay-Z.

One such rumor that has been circulating for years says that they met in a random parking lot in Manhattan and started fighting. Allegedly, LL was laughed at for using a verse from his 1993 song “Funkadelic Relic” from his album 14 shots at the dome.

When asked about this very rumor, the Queens legend responded as follows:

“Okay, let’s talk about what it really is. First of all, I didn’t rap a verse from ‘Funkadelic Relic.’ Okay? That’s the first thing I can say. That’s bullshit. That’s not true. What happened though is I see the guy, he’s in the club trying to show off money to get my attention, and I look like I’m like, ‘Okay.’ And then his buddy Sauce (Money) came up to me and rapped. So, I had a couple rhymes… remember, I’m on albums now.

“You know, these are guys that didn’t have that deal. So when I didn’t have a deal, I had a suitcase full of rhymes. Now I got albums. Sauce said some rhymes. I said some rhymes. Then I said a little something on a song, ‘Ain’t No Stopping This.’ A little bit. Then Jay came on and rapped. I was out of rhymes, b. In no scenario was I fully loaded and ready to rhyme. If I had been, I wouldn’t exactly be the first rapper you’d want to get involved with that shit.

“So, yeah, did I run out of rhymes? Was I done rapping? Absolutely. Was it her cheap gallery? Absolutely. But do you really wanna get dragged into this shit with LL? Do you really want this? Do you guys want this trouble or is it just a nice story?”

The two legends were sometimes very nice in public, but they also insulted each other on various records over the years. Jay hit on LL in the late 90s with this Tim Westwood freestyle, and LL tried to get Jay’s presidency at Def Jam with the track “Queens.”

On the other hand, Jay praised the rap legend during his speech at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, saying that LL helped rappers like him feel more comfortable with their vulnerability and that it “gave us emotional intelligence.”

LL is on a promotional tour for his 14th solo album entitled The power The release date is scheduled for September 6th.
