LOVELL – The Charlotte Hobbs Library Lecture Series welcomes Mary Morton Cowan, award-winning children’s author of numerous books and articles, on Thursday, July 18 at 4 p.m. Cowan will present a program on “Trouble in Nathan’s Woods,” a novel for 8- to 12-year-olds set in 1917 New Hampshire.
Inspired by the author’s family members who lived in a large logging camp during World War I, Cowan’s eleven-year-old protagonist Nathan learns that enemy spies are lurking in New Hampshire, where he lives in his family’s logging camp.
The author has also had articles published in over 80 issues of children’s magazines, including Highlights for Children and Cobblestone, and has won a Best STEM Award for Cyrus Field’s Big Dream: The Daring Effort to Lay the First Transatlantic Telegraph Cable, as well as a National Outdoor Book Award and an award for Most Outstanding Natural History Book for Captain Mac: the Life of Donald Baxter MacMillan, Arctic Explorer.
