Saturday lunch at SLO Vets Hall

Saturday lunch at SLO Vets Hall

The Central Coast Veterans Memorial Museum is hosting its 2and Annual reunion of Korean War veterans on Saturday at SLO Vets Hall.

Coffee and pastries will be served starting at 10:00 a.m., followed by lunch at 11:30 a.m. served by the American Legion Post 66. Last year, the museum hosted a coffee gathering to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the museum.th Anniversary of the Korean War Armistice Agreement that essentially ended the Korean War (1950-1953). More than 30 veterans attended, met fellow veterans and shared stories from their military service.

The museum welcomes all Korean War-era veterans, not just those who served overseas during the three-year war.

“It’s great, especially when we do these period-specific events, because we bring all the veterans from that period of service together,” said Morgan Boyd, San Luis Obispo County Veterans Affairs Officer. “Not only does it give us time to honor them, but it gives them time to engage with each other. Some of them find out they served together or in units nearby. They form new friendships later in life that mean a tremendous amount to them. It’s extremely important that the museum hosts these events.”

Handcrafted gift bags containing gift cards and homemade treats donated by the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 432 in Cambria will be distributed to participating veterans. There will also be a drawing for house prizes including a gift card from Old SLO BBQ. As of Friday afternoon, over 30 veterans have confirmed their participation.

Lunch is sponsored by the Gary Sinise Foundation. Coffee is provided by Coastal Peaks Coffee.

During the assembly, Marg Luth, a local veteran of the Korean War, will be honored with a certificate from the Military Women’s Memorial in Washington DC.
