New series from Superman author published by Dark Horse

CBR can exclusively reveal that Dark Horse Comics will publish a new fantasy series, Welcome to MaynardEisner Award winners James Robinson and J. Bone will write and illustrate the series.




The indie comic publisher describes Welcome to Maynard as a mix of fantasy and mystery, with the first issue featuring magic, mystery, spells, sorcery and “first-class hotel room service”. Set in a hotel for wizards, witches and supernatural beings, The Maynard is a unique hotel where every guest and member of staff “has magic in their veins”. Welcome to Maynard #1 will be released on November 27th with a cover by J. Bone and an alternate cover by Chris Samnee, both seen below.

Welcome to Maynard plays Phillipa “Pip” Dale, who begins her first day as a new bellboy and trainee house detective. She is quickly sent on the hunt for a magical hotel thief whose brazen thefts are part of a much larger mystery – one that threatens to turn deadly at any moment. Along the way, Pip will face challenges and dangers during her time at the magical Maynard Hotel.

Robinson’s “Welcome to Maynard” is full of mystery and hope

Dark Horse’s new fantasy series reunites Robinson with J. Bone, the two who created the Alien horror series together The rescuers in 2013. Their new collaboration is completely different – with Welcome to Maynard with elements of mystery and danger, but also full of hope and joy.

In the press release for the new series, Robinson revealed that it was written for all ages. “It’s exciting to be reunited with my dear friend J. Bone. I love his art and his collaborative spirit, both of which Welcome to Maynard was a joy to write,” he said. “I’m also looking forward to doing a series (similar to Leave it to chanceback then) that can be enjoyed by readers of all ages on a variety of levels.”

Welcome to Maynard Issue #1 hits comic book stores on November 27th from Dark Horse.
