Watch Shelley Duvall talk about her final film shortly before her death (exclusive)

Shelley Duvall, who died on Thursday, July 11, just days after her 75th birthday, gave an interview before her death about her last acting role in The Forest Hills.

In the exclusive clip shared with PEOPLE, Duvall, who has been away from acting for 20 years, says, “It’s a lot of fun to be back.” “I love this work. It can really help you get out of a slump.” Duvall was filmed remotely and directed via Zoom for her latest role.

Elsewhere in the clip: The glow The actress talked about how much she enjoyed being surrounded by such a close-knit group on set and how the film proved to her that there is a “great future for ageing actors” in the industry.

Duvall praised her co-star Chiko Mendez, who played her overprotective mother’s son in The Forest Hills“Working with Chiko is wonderful,” she says, adding that he sang and played guitar between recording sessions.

The Popeye The actress was also fascinated by the “new technologies” in filmmaking. “I was amazed at how easy it became to become a filmmaker.”

She also remembers her time at the hair and makeup salon, where they served tea, coffee – and sometimes tacos. Duvall said that was the longest time she spent in a chair.

The film’s director and producer, Scott Goldberg, told PEOPLE how he will remember the actress after her death. “Shelley leaves behind an incredible legacy and will be missed by so many people, myself included,” he said.

“I am proud of her for overcoming all adversity to return to acting and will be eternally grateful for her friendship and kindness.”

Duvall’s partner Dan Gilroy announced her death from complications of diabetes on Thursday, July 11. “My dear, sweet, wonderful partner and friend has left us,” he said The Hollywood Reporter.

“She has suffered too much lately, now she is free. Fly away, beautiful Shelley.”
