Montana’s most famous burger is only available this weekend

It’s that time of year again. It’s rodeo season in Montana, and one of the state’s oldest rodeos is coming to a close this weekend. But it’s not just the rodeo that makes this weekend so special, it’s also the fact that the rodeo features a certain burger that people drive miles for.

This weekend is the Stampede of wild horses in Wolf Point. Although the event began earlier this week, there will be rodeo action tonight and tomorrow, but for many, that’s not the only reason to head to Wolf Point.

The Wild Horse Stampede also has what is probably Montana’s most famous burger.

The Catholic Burger has been a classic since 1947 and people come from all over just to buy one, two or three. Why is it called the Catholic Burger?

It all started with the folks at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. They had to come up with a fundraiser and decided to make burgers out of Stampede and the rest, as they say, is history.

What makes the Catholic Burger so special?

As with many things that have been around for a long time, there is a little bit of nostalgia involved. Generations of families have either worked at the stand or bought the burgers over the years. But make no mistake, these burgers are delicious and they are known for the onions being pickled in pickle juice.

They also use local beef.

For those of you who are curious, the church will have its booth at the Stampede on Main Street selling Catholic burgers today (Friday) from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m., tomorrow (Saturday) from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m., and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

If that’s not a reason for a road trip, I don’t know what is.
