Dyno Nobel’s world-class explosives technology solutions and services were showcased this week at the Copper for the world Conference in Adelaide, South Australia.

Dyno Nobel, an industry leader in blasting technology, commercial explosives and blasting services, was the conference’s innovation partner and provided attendees with insights including its Drill to Mill™ service offering.

Robert Rounsley, Chief Technology Officer of Dyno Nobel, said: “Copper for the world is a great opportunity for us to introduce our customers and potential customers to the benefits of our premium technology.

“Our technology solutions put the customer at the centre and ensure greater safety, sustainability and productivity at their mining sites. This includes copper mines, where our technology offers solutions to some of the challenges.”

Russell Lamont, senior vice president of retail sales and field service for Dyno Nobel Americas, gave a detailed overview of Drill to Mill and the benefits it brings to customers at the conference.

He said: “At Drill to Mill, our Dyno Nobel experts work with customers on a tailored, operationally comprehensive mining solution to optimise blast design and application of blast technology. The result is significant value creation in downstream processing circuits and reduced overall mining costs.”

He said that the use of Drill to Mill at a large Dyno Nobel copper mine had delivered $58 million in value to the customer within a year by significantly increasing mill throughput.

Lamont said: “In this drill-to-mill example, our premium technology was used to achieve fragmentation and productivity targets on particularly difficult ore types. This included our DIFFERENTIAL ENERGY® (∆E) and DigiShot® Plus.4G technologies, implemented through a strong partnership with customer stakeholders and our world-leading DynoConsult technical expertise.”

DIFFERENTIAL ENERGY offers the possibility to vary the emulsion density from hole to hole and also vertically within each individual blast hole, so that the explosive energy is directed precisely where it is needed.

“Copper to the World” took place on 18 and 19 June at the Adelaide Convention Centre in South Australia.
