Fantasy Baseball Picks Today: Top DraftKings MLB DFS Targets, Values for July 12

Congratulations. You made it to Friday again.

I’m not quite sure how you’ll celebrate, but may I suggest putting together a few lineups for DraftKing’s 12-game MLB draft picks? It’s fun. I swear.

JUG

breed

Sean Manaea, New York Mets Comparisons Colorado Rockies$8,600 – This is Manaea’s most expensive year since mid-April, but the left-hander will make it worth it on Friday night. Manaea has been fantastic in his last five starts, posting a 1.57 ERA and 1.01 WHIP in 28.2 innings. In that span, the veteran has recorded 27 strikeouts and allowed just a single opposing home run. Spoiler alert: I don’t expect the Rockies to end Manaea’s recent winning streak. Colorado’s offensive issues outside of Coors are well known, and over the last two weeks in particular, the Rockies have the lowest wRC+ in baseball (71).

Value

Tyler Anderson, Los Angeles Angels Comparisons Seattle Mariners$7,900 – It’s been an interesting season for Anderson. On one hand, he’s posted a stellar 2.81 ERA and was named an All-Star last week. On the other hand, he’s outperforming his ERA estimates by nearly two full runs. Still, the veteran left-hander got off to his best start of 2024 in his last outing, throwing eight scoreless innings against the Cubs with 10 strikeouts. Meanwhile, the Mariners have had the highest strikeout rate in baseball all year and that hasn’t changed over the past two weeks, where they sit at a massive 30.9% mark. Anderson has some clear upside and remains relatively cheap.

INFIELD

breed

Matt Olson, Atlanta Braves at San Diego Padres5,100 USD – I’ve probably mentioned Olson 10 times this season and it never worked, which says a lot about how disappointing this season has been for the 30-year-old. After hitting the most home runs in baseball in 2023, Olson enters Friday’s game with just a wOBA of .317 and a wRC+ of 103. Blah. He’s left-handed, though, which is enough to make him a tough choice against Randy Vasquez ($6,200). LHBs are slashing the Padres’ RHP by .431/.477/.667 so far in 2024.

breed

Brice Turang, Milwaukee Brewers Comparisons Washington Nationals4,800 USD – Turang is in the midst of a very good season. Not only is he the second-best player in the league with his 29 stolen bases, but he also has a .283 batting average with a 114 wRC+ against RHPs. Any way you look at it, he’s an important part of any Brewers stack that could be constructed – and tonight is certainly a good time to consider such a build. Jackson Rutledge ($6,900) was recalled from Triple-A to start for the Nationals tonight. Rutledge has a 6.66 ERA in the minors in 2024, along with a career ERA of 6.86 at the MLB level.

Value

Nolan Gorman, St. Louis Cardinals Comparisons Chicago Cubs$3,900 – It’s hard to believe Kyle Hendricks ($5,700) is still in the starting lineup in 2024, but that’s just the way it is. The RHP has struggled quite a bit in his 11th season, posting a 7.53 ERA in 63.1 innings. More specifically, Hendricks has been absolutely crushed by opposing LHBs, as the veteran is allowing an incredible 2.56 home runs per nine within the split. That’s where Gorman comes in. Gorman has elite hitting power when he’s actually able to make contact, which shouldn’t be a problem on Friday, as Hendricks’ whiff rate is in the 10th percentile (19.4%).

Value

Brooks Lee, Minnesota Twins at San Francisco Giants$3,800 – Lee’s price continues to rise, and why wouldn’t it? It’s just a sample of 35 batting appearances, but the top prospect has been incredible in his short time with the Twins, batting .364 with a 164 wRC+. Tonight, he and his teammates will face the left-hander. Kyle Harrison ($7,300). In the minors, switch-hitter Lee has tended to be more dangerous against RHPs, but Minnesota as a whole has given opposing LHPs nightmares and leads the AL as a team with a 126 wRC+. Harrison has a 5.00 FIP in his last five starts. Things could get ugly at Oracle Park.

OUTFIELD

breed

Christian Yelich, Milwaukee Brewers vs. Washington Nationals, $5,800 – Yelich looks like the guy who used to be a perennial MVP candidate. There’s no other way to put it. The veteran is batting .329 with a wRC+ of 163 – the highest mark he’s hit since 2019. He’s also red hot to start July, with three home runs and a wOBA of .513 in 10 games. In other words, Yelich will eat Rutledge alive. It’s worth noting that Rutledge has struggled against LHBs of his caliber at the MLB level, allowing a wOBA of .454 over the course of his career within the split.

breed

Byron Buxton, Minnesota Twins at San Francisco Giants, $4,700 – Buxton has been a different player since early June, hitting .324/.372/.604 with a .279 ISO and a 173 wRC+ in his 121 batting appearances. Buxton has also been destroying left-handed pitchers all season, managing a .317 average and a 164 wRC+ within the split. Minnesota will put up some crooked numbers tonight, and Buxton will likely be right in the middle of it.

Value

Lars Nootbaar, St. Louis Cardinals vs. Chicago Cubs, $3,800 – Nootbaar has hit the ground running since returning from a long IL stint, hitting three hits and a home run in his first three games with the Cardinals. For the season as a whole, Nootbaar remains an analyst favorite, with a 52.1% hard hit rate and a .368 expected wOBA. The guy can hit and is another cheap LHB to use against the struggling Hendricks.
