“John Wick” author Derek Kolstad writes science fiction comic “Planet Death”

After making a name for himself with down-to-earth action films John Wick And No oneScreenwriter Derek Kolstad leaves Earth with Planet Death.

He is working with author Robert Venditti and artist Tomás Giorello on the upcoming limited series “Space Invasion,” which Bad Idea will publish in early March.

The Hollywood Reporter offers a first look at the series, which is set on a frozen, hostile planet millions of miles from Earth as a human invasion force attempts to disarm a deadly weapon on an alien planet. The story centers on Corporal Scott, whose battalion is wiped out moments after landing on the planet, leaving him the sole survivor. The description reads: “Against overwhelming odds, Scott dares to do the unthinkable – get behind enemy lines, survive the deadly landscape, evade capture by relentless enemies, resist natural predators, face human deserters, and complete the mission single-handedly. Encased in his full battle armor, supported only by what he can carry, and driven by the wrath of the Earth, Scott must accomplish alone what an entire army could not. Destroy the weapon. Return home.”

Comic book readers can get their first copy of the book at San Diego Comic-Con, where Bad Idea will host a panel at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 27 in Room 24ABC and attendees can take home something exclusive from the convention.

Kolstad is a sought-after screenwriter who Nobody 2 in the works is an executive producer of the upcoming John Wick spin off ballerinaThe author said in a statement: “Planet Death is my love letter to all the comics and books I have read, films I have seen and games I have played – late into the night with a grin on my face…from Hard boiled And Ronin by Frank Miller to the films of Alistair MacLean like The Guns of Navarone And Where eagles dare about Bradbury, Asimov and Heinlein to games like Starship and everything in between,” Kolstad said.

Bad Idea was launched in 2020. The company positions its books as a kind of prestige television and touts its relationships with high-profile authors.

“Derek, Rob and Tomás have built an absolutely tremendous story at the highest level Planet Deathand we have planned an equally massive advertising campaign to support it,” said Dinesh Shamdasani, CEO and CCO of Bad Idea.

Venditti, whose book The Surrogates was adapted into the Bruce Willis film in 2009, noted: “I’ve written a lot of science fiction – but never from the perspective of a D-Day-style invasion. With each project I want to push myself further.” Planet Death is bigger in scale and scope than anything I have done before.”
