What is Chloe Bennet’s background?

The 32-year-old actress was born Chloé Wang in Chicago, Illinois, to a Chinese investment banker and a white American internist. She has lived in China, speaks Mandarin, and was raised both American and Chinese. The actress has been vocal and proud in interviews about also being of Asian-American descent, telling Marie Claire that she once lived with her grandmother in Shanghai.

She has seven brothers

The Disgusting The actress has seven brothers, including four who are biologically related to her, two African-American foster brothers and one Mexican-Filipino adopted brother. She also mentioned to Chicago Tribune that her parents often took in other foster children and foreign exchange students.

According to People, she said she changed her last name from “Wang” to “Bennet” to get cast in Hollywood because her Chinese last name made people in the industry “uncomfortable.” She also revealed to The Daily Beast that the first role she auditioned for after changing her last name was Hailey in Nashvillewhat made her famous.

Bennet has since become a vocal advocate for diversity on screen in Hollywood. She later led DisgustingHollywood’s first animated film with an Asian lead since Mulan.

She has tried her hand at C-Pop and K-Pop

Before adopting the name “Bennet”, she lived in China at the age of 15 and pursued a Chinese pop career under the name Chloe Wang. In 2011, she released her debut single “Uh Oh” in Mandarin and English, followed by the English single “Every Day in Between”.

She also made a brief appearance in K-pop when she appeared in the music video for “Tonight” by K-pop boy group BigBang.

She struggles with mental health

Bennet struggled with anxiety and intermittent depression for much of her life. She was also diagnosed with ADHD at age 12, according to her video for the Child Mind Institute.

Bennet has had some famous ex-boyfriends over the years. She was linked to Disney Channel star Tony Oller in 2012, after which she is said to have Nashville Alum Sam Palladio. Shortly after their split, E! reported that she was dating OneTreeHill Graduate Austin Nichols.

After a nearly four-year relationship, Bennet dated the controversial YouTuber, actor and Professional boxer Logan Pauland called him one of her “best friends.” Not long after their split, she was linked to Riverdale star Charles Melton, but the two were only together for a few months before splitting. Bennet was spotted cozying up to The 1975 member Ross MacDonald late last year.

It all started with the release of the sixth studio album by English singer Charli XCX, brat. The song “Sympathy is a Knife” allegedly refers to her then-boyfriend and now-fiancé George Daniel of The 1975. The lyrics “I don’t want to see her backstage at my friend’s show / I’m crossing my fingers / I hope they break up quickly” led to speculation that it was about Swift, who once dated another member of The 1975, Matty Healy.

However, the latest episode of celebrity gossip source DeuxMoi’s podcast “Deux U” claims that the song could actually be about Bennet due to her connection to MacDonald.
