Popular rock singer has to undergo “emergency surgery”, band has to cancel tour dates

American rock band Queens of the Stone Age have cancelled their remaining July tour dates as singer Josh Homme undergoes “emergency surgery,” the band said in a statement.

QOTSA was touring Europe over the summer, but canceled eight shows this week due to Homme’s unspecified health issues.

“QOTSA regrets to announce that Josh Homme must return to the US immediately for emergency surgery,” the band wrote in a social media post on Tuesday. “We have tried everything to hold on and play for you, but continuing is no longer an option.”

For this reason, QOTSA cancelled its concert on Wednesday 10 July in Vitrolles (France), as well as seven other shows: on 13 July in Trencin (Slovakia), on 16 July in Berlin (Germany), on 17 July in Ostrava (Czech Republic), on 18 July in Vienna (Austria), on 20 July in Cluj (Romania), on 23 and 24 July in Zagreb (Croatia) and on 27 July in Athens (Greece).

QOTSA advised festival ticket holders to visit the respective festival website for up-to-date information, while ticket holders for headlining shows would be contacted directly at the point of purchase, the band said in a statement.

QOTSA’s next appearance is scheduled for August 8th at the Way Out West Festival in Gothenburg, Sweden. The band has seven more European tours scheduled before returning to the US with two shows in Boston on September 27th and 28th.

Further details about Homme’s health condition have not been disclosed by the band. Homme was diagnosed with cancer in 2022, but in June 2023 he announced that he had undergone “successful” surgery to remove the cancer, according to Revolver.
