Ranking the top five Michigan football O-linemen from the Jim Harbaugh era

Ranking the top five Michigan football O-linemen from the Jim Harbaugh era

Jim Harbaugh was a successful coach at Michigan from 2015-2023 before returning to the NFL. Although Harbaugh is now with the Los Angeles Chargers, Wolverine fans will always remember what Harbaugh did for Michigan and what he did to make the Wolverines a perennial power again.

While the running game was the hallmark of the Harbaugh era at Michigan, the running backs couldn’t have done their job without the big men blocking up front. The Wolverines had so many good O-linemen under Harbaugh. Some were All-Americans, others were All-Big Ten players, and a handful started on the Joe Moore Award-winning offensive line. It wasn’t easy to narrow this list down to five linemen, but I did my best to find out who those five were.

Zak Zinter

Zinter will go down as one of Michigan’s best offensive linemen to play in Ann Arbor, and there have been a lot of great O-linemen. He appeared in 45 games as a Wolverine, starting 42 of them. Zinter was a three-time All-Big Ten honoree, a unanimous All-American in 2023, and was a key part of the Joe Moore Award-winning offensive line in both 2021 and 2022.

What is not exactly an honor is the leader and captain that Zinter was. He was a fierce competitor and helped shape the current culture in Ann Arbor.

Olu Oluwatimi

Oluwatimi played just one season as a Michigan Wolverine, but it was a very, very successful one. He came to Michigan after spending the 2019-21 season in Virginia. He started 32 consecutive games at center for the Cavs.

After coming to Michigan in 1922, he was universally recognized as an All-American, selected to the All-Big Ten, won the Rimington Award as the nation’s best center, and was Michigan’s first winner of the Outland Trophy.

Ben Bredeson

Ben Bredeson was one of Harbaugh’s first big recruiting hits, and he lived up to the hype in every way. During his time at Michigan, Bredeson played in 50 games, including 46 as a starter on the offensive line.

The Wisconsin native won All-Big Ten honors three times and was an All-American in 2019. Bredeson did not allow a single hit or sack in his senior year.

Andrew Stueber

Stueber began his career in 2017 and suffered an injury that sidelined him for all of 2019 but didn’t stop him. Stueber came back even stronger, playing in all six games during the 2020 COVID-19 season. He then started and played on the Joe Moore Award-winning offensive line in 2021. Stueber was selected to the All-Big Ten and named an All-American in 2021.

Trevor Keegan

Trevor Keegan may never have been the best on the offensive line, but he was a force to be reckoned with and helped the Wolverines win. Keegan started 37 games and appeared in 44 games during his time in Ann Arbor.

Keegan was named All-Big Ten three times and was part of both Joe Moore Award-winning offensive lines in 2021 and 2022. He was also voted team captain in 2023.
