BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) – The Broken Sound Country Club in Boca Raton is back in court – this time the club is suing two homeowners who allegedly have not paid fees and dues for over a year.

According to the lawsuit, obtained by BocaNewsNow.com, Onajite and Mina Okoloko own property in the 6000 block of NW 22nd Avenue in the Broken Sound community. When purchasing a home in Broken Sound, homeowners must agree to pay all fees, dues, membership fees – everything. And that’s exactly what the Okolokos apparently did. But when the bills came, they apparently didn’t pay.

At the time of filing in Palm Beach County District Court, the Okolokos owed $22,386, which includes general dues, service fees, family contributions, renovation fees, a capital levy and more. The collection notices began in 2023, according to the lawsuit. The lawsuit was just filed. The municipality is threatening foreclosure.

Under Florida law, fees, dues, assessments and more are non-negotiable. If you live in a community with a master association, you are responsible for paying virtually all bills the community sends you. Florida’s newest laws regarding HOAs do not change that.

Broken Sound is represented by Dale Schley of Laing, Weicholz, Schley, PLLC, of Boca Raton. The defendants do not have a lawyer. Read the full complaint here.
