Eminem has released his concept album The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce)and the lyrics of the new track “Habits” are already causing a stir.

On the new album, the Missouri-born rapper embraces his historical alter ego Slim Shady one last time before seemingly killing it off.

In the early 2000s, Shady’s act seemed to be an attempt to offend as many people as possible, so his Shady debut contained a lot of bars, The Slim Shady LPwhich critics have described as misogynistic.

And with Shady’s return comes the return of the inflammatory bars in the five-minute song “Habits,” which addresses Eminem’s battle with addiction. The rapper takes on political correctness, misgendering former Olympian and Trump supporter Caitlyn Jenner and questioning the use of “they”/”them” pronouns.

“This is my shit, I’ll spit it out however I want. Whoever feels insulted can screw the critic,” raps Shady in the first verse, setting the tone for the rest of the track.

“I’m about to get pissed off for this fucking shit, you can’t say ‘pissed off’, shut the fuck up midget,” he continues, before throwing in a reference to a former US president.

“This is Jimmy Carter. Now I’m in trouble. What? I’m in PC court with a crappy lawyer, damn it.”

In the second verse, Eminem seems happy to be able to reignite his ability to piss off as many women as possible – a point he himself admits in one of the lyrics.

“A lyricist expressing his true feelings here has pissed women off. And it seems like men are growing giant clits (pussies) right now. Yeah, I probably annoyed a few feminists,” he spits, before going straight to his past controversies.

“I remember them losing their temper because of my views. But I still don’t give a shit.”

Towards the end of the second verse, Shady takes aim at Jenner, using her deadname and derisive pronouns.

“But when it comes to giving it to somebody, boy, Bruce is generous (Marshall), and I’m about as much of a boy as Bruce Jenner. Because I’m not a boy, I’m a man-bitch, man-bitch. My speech is free, as free as his choice of gender (man).”

The rapper increases his disdain for pronouns and “crybabies” in the following verse.

“All these pronouns, I can’t remember (damn). They or them, theirs? (Who?) His or him, theirs?” he barks. “You’re into these girls who bought tits to get attention. Then you get hit on by ugly men who, creeps, are out of your league, so you pretend you’re a victim and you imitate them.”

In 2021, Eminem’s child Stevie came out as genderfluid and adopted the pronouns “they”/”them.”

The 15-time Grammy winner rounds out “Habits” by suggesting that listeners will “cancel” him, like other celebrities, including rapper DaBaby and comedian Dave Chappelle, who have both been criticized for remarks about the LGBTQ+ community.

On “Houdini”, the first single from The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce)In the film, released in May, Eminem joked about RuPaul’s “balls” and Megan Thee Stallion being shot.
