Darryl Hall and John Oates, longtime members of the pop duo Hall & Oates, will both perform in Philadelphia, but separately.

Hall & Oates, one of Montgomery County’s most famous duos, are returning to the Philadelphia area, but not together, writes Victor Fiorillo for Philadelphia Magazine.

In the 1980s, Hall and Oates had a hugely successful musical relationship with hits like “Maneater” and “Private Eyes.” But four decades later, their relationship is on the rocks.

This month, Daryl Hall, who grew up near Pottstown, will play solo at the Mann Center. Next month, North Wales native John Oates will perform his solo program at the Cape May Convention Hall, followed by a headlining appearance at the Philadelphia Folk Festival.

Although they have already done solo tours and recorded albums, it was only two years ago that the couple toured together at the same time.

In late 2022, after decades of clashing personalities, they began talking about ending their relationship.

However, things went to hell when Oates sold his share of the partnership to an investment firm without notifying Hall. Hall sued Oates, arguing that he had no right to do so without his permission and accusing Oates of committing the “ultimate partnership betrayal.”

The legal dispute is not yet over.
