Russia’s war casualty rate is highest in the last two months

The average daily combat losses (killed and wounded) of Russian invading forces in Ukraine in May and June 2024 were the highest since the large-scale invasion, averaging 1,262 and 1,163 men, respectively.

This was reported on X by the British Ministry of Defence, citing intelligence data seen by Ukrinform.

In total, Russia has probably lost over 70,000 people (dead and wounded) in the last two months.

The increased losses indicate that Russia has opened a new front in the Kharkiv region while maintaining the same pace of offensive operations along the rest of the front, British intelligence notes.

“Although this new approach has increased pressure on the front lines, effective Ukrainian defenses and a lack of Russian training reduce Russia’s ability to exploit tactical successes despite attempts to further extend the front line,” the report said.

British intelligence estimates that daily casualties in Russia will average over 1,000 over the next two months as Russia continues to try to “overwhelm Ukrainian positions with mass force.”

As Ukrinform previously reported, citing the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, the total combat losses of Russian troops in the period from February 24, 2022 to July 12, 2024, amounted to an estimated 556,650, including 1,030 in the past day alone.
