Lana Del Rey debuts new song and Quavo collaboration at Fenway Park show that was postponed and evacuated due to weather

Lana Del Rey debuted a new song and collaboration with Quavo during her recent performance at Fenway Park. Check out footage from the performance below.

The slot took place last night (June 20), when the singer took to the stage at the Boston festival for a career-spanning performance, but it was almost cancelled after extreme weather conditions meant the venue had to be evacuated shortly before the performance and the performance had to be postponed.

Del Rey was originally scheduled to take the stage at 8:30 p.m., but she took to social media to explain that the time had been changed. “They are moving the show to 9 p.m. due to wind warnings. See you soon,” she wrote.

By 9 p.m., she was still not on stage and posted another update on the situation: “So I’m down here at Fenway, everyone’s here, they just cleared the stage. Every time lightning strikes, we have to wait 20 minutes and it just keeps striking,” she explained.

“So we were hoping to fill the hall again by 10 a.m., at least do a one-hour show, um, that was the bare minimum we were hoping for. Worst case scenario, we’ll move it to Saturday. I’m crossing my fingers. And I’m down here with all the girls and just hoping.”

She also posted a poll on Instagram, asking if her fans would prefer a shorter show in the evening, starting at 10:30 p.m., or if she would prefer a longer show the next day. After fans voted for the former, she took the stage for a shortened set (via Newsweek).

During the set, she managed to sing 15 songs despite the lockdown, and opened with an unreleased, never-before-heard song. Although the title is unknown and it’s not clear when Del Rey plans to release the song, she was heard singing the lyrics on the show:Past, present, future/ Jesus saves and I just worship/ A thousand ways“.

From there, she belted out tracks like “Summertime Sadness,” “Cherry,” “Born To Die” and more before rounding out the set with a collaboration with Atlanta rapper Quavo. Towards the end of the set, the two took the stage and together debuted their new single “Tough,” which they premiered on Wednesday (June 19).

Del Rey also brought two other special guests for the show – TikTok singer Stephen Sanchez and famous former Walmart yodeler Mason Ramsey. With Sanchez, they sang a moving duet of his song “Until I Found You” and with Ramsey, they sang his recently released single “Blue Over You.”

Below you can find more footage from the performance as well as the full setlist.

Lana Del Rey’s setlist at Fenway Park was:

Unpublished title, title unknown
‘Without you’
‘West Coast’
‘Summertime Sadness’
‘Cherry’
“Pretty when you cry”
“Blue Over You” (Mason Ramsey cover with Mason Ramsey)
‘Drive’
‘Born to Die’
“Chemtrails over the Country Club”
“The subsidies”
“Did you know there’s a tunnel under Ocean Boulevard?”
“Until I Found You” (cover by Stephen Sanchez) (with Stephen Sanchez)
“Tough” (with Quavo, live debut; unreleased)
‘Video games’

It is currently unclear if “Tough” will be featured on Lana’s upcoming album, Lasso, or if it will be part of a larger Quavo project. It also remains uncertain if Ramsey or Sanchez will be featured on the upcoming country album.

Del Rey announced the album earlier this year, and although the LP does not yet have a release date, the singer spoke to NME‘s Andrew Trendell in May. Although she didn’t reveal much about the album, Lana hinted that the album’s lyrics might be lighter than her more recent releases.

“I may have less self-revealing things to say, like on ‘Tunnel’ or ‘Blue Bannisters’ or ‘Chemtrails Over The Country Club’, and it’s just more melodic. Maybe more in the style of the American Songbook?”

She also spoke about a possible sense of satisfaction surrounding the new project. “Three years ago there might have been a sense of satisfaction, but now it just feels playful. I don’t know why,” she explained, reflecting on her recent successes. “If you keep going long enough, it just feels easy. There’s no satisfaction, nothing – I’m just kind of happy to be here. It’s easygoing in that respect.”

Lana Del Rey will headline Reading & Leeds 2024 this coming August Bank Holiday (23-25). She will play Reading on Saturday 24 August and Leeds on Sunday 25 August. Tickets are available here.
