The Curious Theatre Company will conclude its 27th season with a world premiere of Regina Taylor

Denver’s Curious Theatre Company has faced some challenges of late. It recently announced that it will likely sell its historic building and move to a new one – for financial reasons. But before it makes the move after its 27th season, it will stage an as-yet-unnamed world premiere – an ambitious project that explores school integration in Oklahoma.

Artistic Director Jada Suzanne Dixon announced today that “Exhibit,” a play by Golden Globe winner Regina Taylor, will close its season in May 2025. Taylor, who will also star in the production, developed the play at the Hermitage Artist Retreat before bringing it to the Aspen Solo Flights Festival, where it was directed by Phylicia Rashad.

“Exhibit” tells the story of Iris, an African-American woman who remembers parts of her childhood when she started school in Muskogee, Oklahoma. Dixon, who will direct the world premiere at the Curious Theatre, expressed her emotional reaction to the opportunity.

“I’m so honored that Regina Taylor trusts us to carry on her work. She trusts me as an artist that we can embrace her and really work with her authentically to bring this story to life so that people can see this reflection of black women.”

The addition of “Exhibit” concludes the Curious Theatre’s five-part season, which the company describes as “seditious.” Season passes are available now, and individual tickets go on sale August 1 at 10 a.m.
