Bus driver and students injured in school bus accident in Michigan

A Michigan school bus carrying 11 special needs students skidded and struck a semi-trailer Wednesday morning, CBS News reported.

The incident occurred at approximately 9:30 a.m. when a Jackson County Intermediate School bus skidded, causing the driver to lose control and eventually collide with a semi-trailer truck.

Michigan State Police and Blackman Township patrol officers who arrived at the scene said that after the tractor-trailer was struck, it struck the median wall and the bus rolled over on its side, according to the article.

According to the news report, in addition to the bus driver, a bus attendant and 11 students with special needs were on board the bus. Three students and the bus driver were reportedly injured and taken to a local hospital. Their current condition is unknown.

The Michigan State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division will reportedly examine the bus and tractor-trailer on Thursday as both the wet road and speed appear to have been factors in the crash. The investigation is ongoing.
