The sudden death of Shelley Duvall this week at the age of 75 is the latest tragedy surrounding Stanley Kubrick’s seemingly cursed film The Shining.

Duvall – who deceased on Thursday, just days after her 75th birthday after a battle with diabetes – became the youngest victim of the accident that occurred on The glow since its publication 44 years ago.

Shelley Duvall died on Thursday, just a few days after her birthday, from complications of diabetes. She was 75 years old.

The long-time partner of the original Scream Queen Daniel Gilroy confirmed Duvall’s death in a heartbreaking opinion Thursday, with the words: “My dear, sweet, wonderful partner and friend has left us.”

Gilroy continued, “She has suffered too much lately, now she is free. Fly away, beautiful Shelley.”

Duvall’s death this week drew renewed attention to the countless accidents that have occurred since then. The glowThe premiere was almost 45 years ago.

Kubrick, who died in 1999 and was a notoriously difficult director, required her co-star Duvall to do 87 different takes. Jack Nicholsonand fellow actor Daniel Lloyd cross a street for a scene.

Duvall was so stressed that her hair began to fall out in clumps and she largely withdrew from acting after completing The Shining.

The torture on set only continued as Kubrick isolated Duvall from the rest of the cast and constantly berated the actress to improve her performance in the role of Wendy Torrance.

Actors and insiders familiar with the filming The glow claimed that Kubrick forced Duvall and Nicholson to shoot the film’s infamous “Give me the bat” scene 127 times.

Duvall was so stressed that she began to lose clumps of hair and The glow was finished, she largely retired from acting.

In an interview about filming the Stephen King adaptation, the actress spoke about the brutal treatment she endured as well as her later appreciation for Kubrick.

She explained: “You appreciate all the pain. I mean, you never like the pain, no matter what it causes. You always resent it. I resented Stanley sometimes for pushing me. And that hurt. And I resented him for that.

“I thought, ‘Why do you want to do this to me? How can you do this to me?’ It’s tormenting. And it’s just a necessary turmoil to get what you want.”

But Duvall also acknowledged her respect for Kubrick, explaining: “We had the same goal in mind, only sometimes our means differed. And in the end the means coincided. And I found that I really respect him and really like him. Both as a person and as a director.”

“I’m amazed. He taught me more than I learned from all the other paintings I’ve made in a single year.”

The 87-year-old Nicholson, who starred alongside Duvall in the role of the crazy Jack Torrance, has lived a secluded life in recent years.

Kubrick’s terrible treatment of Duvall was not the only tragedy The glow during and especially in the years after the film’s completion.

Later, during the grueling filming, a massive fire broke out, destroying two sound stages – one of which was the set for the infamous “bat scene”. What caused the fires was never discovered.

The apparent curse of The glow was not continued until Kubrick died suddenly in his sleep on March 7, 1999 as a result of a devastating heart attack. He had just turned 70 years old.
