Naturalist Chris Packham calls on Taylor Swift to stop travelling on private jets

Naturalist Chris Packham urged Taylor Swift to think about the “future of all her young fans” and asked her to stop traveling on private jets.

The pop superstar, who will take the stage at Wembley Stadium on Friday when he comes to London with his Eras Tour, has travelled to all stops on his world tour by private jet.

On Thursday, activists from Just Stop Oil sprayed orange paint on private jets at Stansted Airport, the airfield where they believed Swift’s plane had landed hours earlier.

Essex Police later said the pop star’s private jet was not at the airport.

Speaking on Friday on Good Morning Britain, TV presenter Packham said: “I asked her to think about the future of all her young fans.

“(She has) tremendous communication skills. A very powerful, intelligent young woman.”

“She should use this platform to lead and certainly not behave like a yesterday’s rock star traveling around the world in private jets.

“And I think she needs to show this legion of young fans who adore her that she cares about their future.”

He said: “Maybe Taylor wants to have children of her own one day, I don’t know. I’m sure she wants a healthy, happy planet for them to live on.”

“To achieve that, we need to change the way we use our fossil fuels. And she could send a very symbolic gesture to millions of people by saying she’s stopping the use of these jets.”

Packham said Swift did not respond to his request, but he offered her the opportunity to send a message that they could play at the Restore Nature Now march this weekend.

More than 300 charities, businesses and campaign groups will take part in the rally to send a message to Westminster that nature and climate should be given higher priority in this election campaign and in the next parliamentary term.

“I offered her the opportunity to send a video message that we could play at our rally on Saturday. You could reach maybe 50, 60, 70, 100,000 people who would instantly become Taylor Swift fans, even if they’re over 15,” Packham added.

The US superstar has already played shows in Edinburgh, Liverpool and Cardiff and arrives at Wembley Stadium amidst the excitement of his fans.

British and Irish fans have been waiting for the show for more than a year since Swift kicked off her marathon series of dates in Glendale, Arizona in March 2023.

Swift will play three nights at Wembley Stadium on Friday, Saturday and Sunday before touring Dublin next week.

She will return to London in August for five more shows.
