Fantasy Premier League 2024/25 tips: The three best value FPL players and the worst

Fantasy Premier League 2024/25 tips: The three best value FPL players and the worst

There is only a little over a month left until the start of the new Premier League season, which means that the FPL will soon be back on the doorstep.

On Thursday, the price of one player from each club was announced as the Premier League piqued our interest, and it is around now that many FPL fans will start to pick their squads for the big opening weekend.

So, who are the best and worst value FPL players whose prices have been released so far?

Fantasy Premier League 2024/25 tips: The three best FPL players so far have been revealed

3. Christopher Nkunku

Association: Chelsea Position: CENTER Price: £6.5m 23/24 points: 29

Nkunku only started twice in the Premier League last season and made 11 appearances overall due to injury, but he still managed to score three goals. In the Frenchman’s last two seasons at RB Leipzig, he scored 58 goals and provided 29 assists in 88 appearances in all competitions, so no one doubts his true quality.

Due to injuries last season, Nkunku has become £1 million more expensive. It is true that he needs a good preparation to get going under Enzo Maresca, but he has been reclassified as a midfielder and if he can get back to the form he had in Germany, the £6.5 million will be a real bargain.

2. Richarlison

Despite starting just 18 Premier League matches last season, Richarlison still managed 11 goals and four assists, proving to be a key player at key moments in Ange Postecoglou’s first season as Tottenham manager.

On a good day, Richarlison is a threat to defenders. Among Spurs players who played more than 100 minutes in the Premier League last season, the Brazilian was the player with the most goals (0.66) and most shots on target (1.51) per 90 minutes and didn’t need a second invitation to try his luck. The 27-year-old has been reclassified as a striker and having more than proven he can lead Spurs, he looks like good business at just £7m.

By comparison, players like Gabriel Martinelli, Rasmus Hojlund, Diogo Jota and Marcus Rashford cost more last season than Richarlison does now, but scored fewer points in the 2023/24 season.

1. Anthony Gordon

Anthony Gordon was Newcastle’s top points scorer last season with 183 points, thanks to 11 goals and 10 assists in 35 appearances. Naturally, this has increased his price tag from £6.4m to £7.5m, but there are a few important factors to consider.

One of them is that he could still make a big move this summer, with transfers being discussed from clubs such as Man City and Liverpool. It’s hard to imagine Gordon’s numbers not skyrocketing alongside Kevin De Bruyne and Phil Foden, or Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Even if Gordon stays, Newcastle will face Southampton, Bournemouth, Wolves and Fulham in their first five games – and a clash with Spurs in between. You could hardly wish for a better start to the season.

Honorable Mentions: Leif Davis, Pedro Neto, Jarrod Bowen, Antoine Semenyo

Fantasy Premier League 2024/25 tips: Is Erling Haaland worth his FPL record price?

The biggest news of the day was that Erling Haaland was given a whopping £15 million price tag – the highest price tag in FPL history. So is he worth it? The Norwegian has plenty of arguments for and against.

After all, this is a player who has won two consecutive Premier League Golden Boot awards since joining Man City from Dortmund and has scored 63 goals in 66 appearances so far. He plays for the four-time champions and arguably the most effective attacking unit the English top flight has ever seen, and gets a ton of chances in almost every game he plays.

However, it is no secret that Haaland struggles to contribute in the course of play. The 23-year-old has only 13 assists to his name in the Premier League so far, which is quite low considering how much time he spends in the attacking third. In addition, Haaland was only the fifth-highest FPL points scorer last season with 217 points, finishing behind Bukayo Saka (226), Ollie Watkins (228), Phil Foden (230) and Cole Palmer (244). Injuries hampered the Norwegian’s season and FPL managers began to realise that they could win without Haaland.

Therefore, it is very difficult to justify paying a record fee to bring Haaland into your team, especially when it means you may not be able to afford to stock your team with other big names like Saka, Salah and Son Heung-min.
