Kesha speaks openly about her craft.

The “Joyride” superstar gave an emotional TED talk entitled “Alchemy of Pop”, which was released just Thursday (July 11) and deals with the power of songwriting as well as her personal struggle in the industry, including her decades-long legal battle with Dr. Lukas that ended in 2024.

During the conversation, she explained the emotions she felt when she wrote “Tik Tok” at 21, and also years later, 2017’s “Praying.”

“I found myself in a very ugly legal battle with the same person to whom I had signed over the rights to my recorded voice. I had lost the rights to my voice and in doing so I felt like I had lost the rights to myself,” she said.

“It was very public. It was very painful. I was very angry. So I did what I always do with all my emotions and wrote through it.”

“On March 6, 2024, I regained the right to my own voice. And with it, a new-found freedom for the first time in almost 20 years,” she later said.

“It’s strange that you can lose the right to your voice, but never the right to your truth.”
