Chris Packham criticizes “intelligent” Taylor Swift for using private jets

Chris Packham has continued to target Taylor Swift, trying to get her to stop using private jets.

In June, Swift arrived in the UK to perform her highly anticipated Eras Tour everywhere. She was seen arriving at London Stansted on a private jet ahead of her string of Wembley tour dates.

The Springwatch star presented his “peaceful” campaign on Good Morning Britain. He heaped praise on the pop star, saying she was a “very powerful, intelligent young woman”, but urged the star to change his travel plans.

He said: “Just Stop Oil has targeted Stansted Airport, where private jets are still in use, and I have – peacefully and without colour – targeted Taylor Swift while she is in the UK. She is a very high-profile user of private jets.

“This is something I think is extremely important. We need to reduce our emissions. We all need to make a change, me, you and Taylor Swift.”

“I asked her to think about the future of all her young fans. She has tremendous communication skills and is a very strong, intelligent young woman. She should use this platform to be a leader.”

“And certainly not to behave like a rock star from yesterday who travels around the world in a private jet.

“I think she needs to show that legion of adoring fans. Maybe Taylor wants to have children of her own one day. I’m sure she wants a healthy and happy planet for them to live on. She could send a symbolic gesture to millions of people by saying she won’t use those jets anymore.”

Packham wanted Swift’s opinion on the family-friendly and legal Restore Nature Now demonstration in Park Lane, London. The Restore Nature Now demonstration will see thousands calling on politicians to take action on climate change in the UK.

The rally may be a day away, but Packham has not given up hope after hearing from Swift. The environmental activist promised that the singer would gain hundreds of thousands of new fans over the age of 15 if she sent a video message to be played at the rally.

He said: “She hasn’t yet. I said she could send a video message that we could play at our rally.”

He added of the rally: “We want a healthier future for our planet. It’s a peaceful rally. Have fun. It’s a family-friendly event with costumes… We will hold our future government accountable.”

Packham had previously explained his arguments to Swift, saying he wanted her to make more sustainable choices on her world tours.

He told The Mirror: “I think Taylor Swift has enormous power. She is speaking to an audience that is going to face significant problems due to climate change and species extinction.”

“And they should be at the forefront of making their future safer and more sustainable. What a missed opportunity. What they should be saying is, ‘You know what? Thanks for pointing that out to me. I’m going to switch to commercial aircraft.’

“We all realize that she needs to travel the world. We’re not saying she should stop touring. We’re just saying she should do it in the most environmentally friendly way possible.”

Swift has stated that she will offset her carbon footprint. The carbon footprint is a measure of the amount of carbon dioxide and other carbon compounds released by the consumption of fossil fuels by an individual or group.

Her spokesman told the Associated Press that “Taylor bought more than twice the carbon credits needed to offset all of the tours” before The Eras tour began. AP reported that her representative “did not provide details.” However, critics have raised doubts about the effectiveness of the carbon credits.

Yahoo has reached out to representatives for Taylor Swift for further comment.
