“The United States has been working for months to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza, bring the hostages home, and pave a path to peace and stability in the Middle East. Six weeks ago, I put forward a detailed plan in writing. It was endorsed by the UN Security Council and the G-7. This framework has now been signed up to by both Israel and Hamas. So I sent my team to the region to work out the details. These are difficult, complex issues. There are still gaps to be filled. We are making progress. The trend is positive, and I am committed to finalizing this agreement and ending this war that should end now.”

“I met with most of the Arab leaders to build consensus on what needed to be done to get more aid, food and medicine into Gaza. And we pushed really hard for that. And Israel was not very cooperative at times.”

“I know Israel well and I support Israel. But this war cabinet is one of the most conservative war cabinets in Israel’s history. And there is no unified response to the two-state solution here.”

Biden added that Israel should not occupy Gaza once the war against Hamas militants ends. He said he supported Israel’s attempts to defeat Hamas militants in Gaza, but “it’s time to end this war,” and he advocated for a ceasefire.
