Nelly Furtado says she has a song for a collaboration with Taylor Swift

Nelly Furtado has chosen a song for a possible collaboration with Taylor Swift.

The 45-year-old singer of “Maneater” told in an interview with Extra shared on Thursday, July 11, that she wrote a song for Swift, 34, that the Eras tour star hasn’t heard yet.

“I have a song for Taylor,” she said, noting that the track was produced by Australian EDM artist Dom Dolla, who is a pal of Swift’s boyfriend Travis Kelce. “Dom is friends with Travis, so let’s rock it! We want Taylor on it!”

“It’s kind of surreal for me,” Furtado said to Extra“I take these long breaks from music and sometimes I feel like a music librarian trapped in the body of a pop star. Every time I come back from the woods, I think to myself, ‘I’m back from the woods! I’m back from my cave!'”

“I meet other artists and they like my music, like Taylor Swift, it’s kind of like, ‘Oh damn, that’s cool!'” she continued. “‘Seriously, you sang my song at a party?’ It kind of makes you forget that you’ve been around for a while.”

“She is an icon!” Furtado enthused during a meeting on July 11 at Today with Hoda and Jenna. “It’s such a beautiful flow of life to know that your songs still resonated 20 years later. Because you doubt yourself and think, ‘Oh, maybe it was just a thing, a trend.’ But then when you see new generations enjoying your music, it becomes very real.”

Swift made no secret of her love for Furtado as the two chatted backstage at the 2023 VMAs.

“I was like, ‘I’m like a bird,'” Swift told Furtado in a video she shared on TikTok. “Versatility, dude. You can do anything, you can do anything.”

Furtado then complimented Swift on her songwriting, saying, “Every time you write another great song, I think, ‘She did it again!'”

Fans of Furtado (including Swift) will surely say she did it again when she releases her new album, “7,” in September.

The LP, her first in seven years, was announced by Furtado on Instagram on Thursday. “It’s super personal,” she said of the process of making the record. “Music is my whole language and my whole life and my whole love and my blessing.”

She further noted that she initially “made 400-500 pieces of music in 4 years” before narrowing the selection down to 14 songs that are “kind of like random shells that might be similar but aren’t the same at all.”

“It’s up to you how you enjoy it,” she added. “My only intention was to provide some portals to get out, let go and escape.”

7 will be released on September 20th.
