The Acolyte’s pop song builds on a long Star Wars tradition

This week’s episode of The Acolyte“Choice,” gave fans an end credits song inspired by the show’s sisterhood between Osha and Mae (Amandla Stenberg). Although it’s not what fans expect when they call war of stars Music comes to mind (keyword John Williams), “Power of Two” is actually not war of stars‘ first official pop song.

The song by Victoria Monét closes the penultimate chapter of the first season, a flashback that reveals the truth about the tragedy that ultimately separated the twins. The song is titled “Power of Two” and deals with the themes of duality and the fate that the sisters share. More of a song by war of stars This is not an original lore, but rather a Disney-style soundtrack that fits directly into the canon of the universe as a piece of music about the saga of the twins from the High Republic era.

Hear it below!

As novel as “Power of Two” is, it is not the first official pop song approved by Lucasfilm. Fans of Galaxy’s Edge at Walt Disney World and Disneyland, as well as the now-closed Star Wars: Galactic Star Cruiserwill know that besides jizz music, there is actually pop and rock in the universe. Gaya, a Twi’lek singer, was born after theStar Wars: The Last Jedi as a real celebrity with an entire album full of galactic pop songs inspired by the mythology of the Resistance and its characters. She was a key figure on board Galactic Star Cruiser‘S Halcyon Cruise ship, where she gave a concert that was a highlight for the visitors. Her sound was very similar to “Power of Two”, and although the song was only an end credit in the context of The Acolyteone could imagine Gaya having it in her repertoire as a classic from the High Republic era.

Other musicians recently added war of stars The canon includes Star Waver, a rock band from Lucasfilm’s animated anthology Star Wars: Visions; it was seen in “Tatooine Rhapsody” where it played “Galactic Dreamer”. And even before Weird Al’s incredible saga of war of stars Parody songs with hits like “Yoda” and “The Saga Begins,” the infamous but popular Star Wars Christmas Special also featured original music performed by cast members such as Carrie Fisher with “A Day to Celebrate,” Bea Arthur’s “Good Night But Not Goodbye,” and musical guest Jefferson Starship with “Light the Sky on Fire.” And let’s not forget the Max Rebo Band’s showstopper “Lapti Nek” in Return of the Jedi.

There have been ups and downs over the decades, but pop has always been in the war of stars universe. And we would say “Power of Two” is more subdued, as it is an excellent song that adds a subtle touch to the narrative. Whether in the canon itself or just on soundtracks, we are here for more genre music in War of stars. Give us an officially licensed, insane Sith metal album from the band Ghost.

Star Wars: The Acolyte airs Tuesdays on Disney+.
