(FOX40.COM) — The former Capital Athletic Club space will soon be occupied by the YMCA.

A spokesperson for the YMCA of Superior, California, told FOX40.com that the 50,000-square-foot space at 1515 8th Street will be renamed the Capital YMCA.

The YMCA’s newest location is scheduled to open with a soft launch in early September, with a grand opening event planned for December or January 2025, according to the YMCA’s website.

Capital YMCA facilities are expected to include a fitness and cardio center, gymnasium, outdoor pool, racquetball courts, group exercise classes and a sauna. Programs offered include swim lessons, personal training and sports for adults and youth.

The Capital Athletic Club closed its doors on the last day of 2023 after 38 years in business in downtown Sacramento.

Management cited “several factors” that have led to operational challenges in recent years.

The YMCA of Superior California currently operates one location in Sacramento at 2021 W Street in Midtown. Other YMCA locations in the region are in Fair Oaks, Woodland and Grass Valley.
