Leaders Credit Union receives awards for “Philosophy-in-Action” and “Financial Education”

JACKSON, Tennessee. — Leaders Credit Union, a member-owned financial cooperative based in Jackson, Tennessee, has won the Tennessee Credit Union League’s Louise Herring Philosophy-in-Action Member Service Award and the Desjardins Financial Education Award. The awards were presented at the Tennessee Credit Union League’s annual meeting in Gatlinburg, Tennessee.

“We are truly grateful for the recognition of our dedicated efforts in providing financial advice and education,” said Todd Swims, President and CEO of Leaders Credit Union. “We appreciate the recognition of the importance of these initiatives in empowering our members and community. We look forward to continuing to provide the best possible services and products to further deepen our relationships with them. Thank you to the Tennessee Credit Union League for your support of Leaders and other credit unions across our state.”

PHILOSOPHY-IN-ACTION-MEMBER SERVICE AWARD

The Louise Herring Philosophy-in-Action Member Service Award was presented to recognize the philosophy that Leaders Credit Union implements in its internal and external operations. This award was given because of their commitment to training their staff to become certified financial counselors so that their members can receive appropriate advice to improve their financial health. Because many counties in West Tennessee suffer from poverty, the staff at Leaders Credit Union is on a mission to equip their communities with appropriate financial education and resources to help them make smart spending and savings decisions.

DESJARDINS PRIZE FOR FINANCIAL EDUCATION

Another award presented to Leaders Credit Union was the Desjardins Financial Education Award. Named after the man who brought credit unions to North America, Alphonse Desjardins, this award recognizes the Desjardins Program created by the Credit Union National Association. The program recognizes credit unions that lead the way for their members and the community by providing them with the tools they need to improve their financial literacy.

Because it is imperative to teach young people sound financial habits before they become financially independent, Leaders Credit Union offers financial education courses and simulations for students throughout West Tennessee.

“Teaching financial literacy to students across West Tennessee is paramount to building a solid financial foundation that they can build upon for the rest of their lives,” said Evan Flora, Community Engagement Specialist at Leaders Credit Union. “We want students to learn from their mistakes in a classroom simulation rather than in the real world, where it can take years to correct early mistakes.”
