Chris Paul’s move to San Antonio will be a big change for him in several ways.

ESPN’s Bobby Marks reported Thursday that Paul’s new contract with the San Antonio Spurs contains an unusual clause. Paul has an incentive in the contract that will give him an additional $262,000 if the Spurs finish the season with (checks his notes) 32 wins or more.

Marks also mentions that Paul has seven additional bonuses written into his contract with San Antonio. You can read the full report here.

Thirty-two wins (nine games under .500) seems like a very low bar for 12-time All-Star Paul, who has been in contention for championships almost every time during his 19-year NBA career. But it would actually be a big improvement for the Spurs, who are regrouping and have now gone 22-60 in two consecutive seasons.

Now 39 years old and still looking for his first NBA title, Paul recently explained why he chose San Antonio. The 32-win bonus in Paul’s contract with the team is further evidence of his changing priorities.
