Serious allegations against famous band from Louisiana

Serious allegations against famous band from Louisiana

In the late 1980s, Ruston became the birthplace of the Elephant 6 Recording Company, a musical coalition that would later give birth to famous bands such as The Apples in Stereo, Of Montreal, The Olivia Tremor Control and, most notably, Neutral Milk Hotel. Julian Koster was a member of the aforementioned Neutral Milk Hotel and joined the band in the late 1990s to record their cult classic album. In the plane over the sea. Koster recorded banjo and musical saw on the album and became the band’s touring bassist following the album’s release. Earlier this week, Koster came under fire after serious allegations were made against him.

Anna “Nesey” Gallons was a fan of the Elephant 6 and came into contact with Julian via email in 2000 at the age of 15. She claimed that each exchange became increasingly intimate until they began a relationship in April 2001 at the age of 16. Nesey made her allegations against Koster public in an Instagram post, claiming that he assaulted her twice in 2005. Nesey claimed in 2020 that she tried to reconcile with Koster, but according to her, she was “scrapped” by his PR team.

After these allegations came to light among the musician’s fans, Koster posted his own statement on the allegations on his current project’s Instagram page. Koster admits that the relationship actually began when she was 16 and he was 28. In the post, he apologized, claiming, “…it was wrong to allow the relationship to happen in the first place and I have apologized to Nesey many times for it.” Koster denies all other claims made by Nesey, stating that the relationship ended in 2008 when he realized he was “…trapped in an abusive relationship with her.”

Koster states that he has spent the last few years, presumably since 2020 as Nesey previously mentioned, trying to build a friendship with Nesey and allowing himself to acknowledge the pain she has felt. Koster claims that these attempts at friendship have failed and that Nesey and her current husband have harassed him for years, demanding things like a romantic relationship between the couple and Koster, that Koster move in with them, fund Nesey’s family, and let them have control of his life. Koster also stated that he is looking into a restraining order against the couple due to their ongoing harassment.

In a statement to Rolling Stone, Robert Schnieder, founding member of Elephant 6 and Ruston native, said: “I am shocked by Nesey’s account. I do not personally know the details of her account as we did not meet until later and Elephant 6 had already disbanded at the time of the events. There is no place for abuse in the Elephant 6 community.” In an Instagram comment, Nesey claims that Jeff Mangum, founding member of Elephant 6, frontman of Neutral Milk Hotel and Ruston native, knew about the relationship from the beginning.
