The lyrics of “God Bless the USA” got former AMERICAN IDOL star Danny Gokey thinking: “What does it really mean to have God’s blessing?”

“Matthew chapter 5 says, ‘Blessed are the poor in spirit. Blessed are those who mourn. Blessed are the meek. Blessed are the merciful. Blessed are the peacemakers. Blessed are those who are persecuted for their righteousness’ sake, right? Blessed. Blessed. Blessed. Blessed,” the artist explained on Instagram on July 5.

“Another translation is ‘Happy are those,'” the singer explained. “Think about it. Happy are those who are bankrupt in spirit.”

On the other hand, those who do the opposite are unfortunate.

“Unhappy are the arrogant who fill their lives with earthly things. Unhappy are those who pretend to be at peace and do not make peace, do not fight or wage war. These are unhappy people,” he said. “Unhappy are the merciless.”

“We see that there are blessings in all of this. If you have the opportunity, read the Beatitudes in Matthew chapter 5,” he told the audience. “Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake.”

Gokey points out that many are hesitant to share the gospel in other countries where people are “unhappy,” but those who are rich in mercy but lack worldly comforts are actually happy people.

“In the spiritual world, the truly unhappy ones are those who are full of the lust of the eyes, the lust of the flesh and human pride,” Gokey said. “It’s time to go back to the root of Scripture and say, ‘God, blessed are the poor in spirit.’ So I know that sex, drugs, alcohol and things like that will never fulfill me. It’s an unhappy vacuum. It never fills up.”

Gokey stressed that blessing does not mean that only good things happen. The blessing “comes from knowing that God is with us in them and that we are walking in righteousness. It means less of us, but more grace, more peace and more of HIM… and that is definitely what our country needs!” he wrote.

Gokey loves God and the USA. He did his own cover of “God Bless the USA” as well as a patriotic song called “My America.”

Some of the lyrics are:

I still believe in us, oh America

You are still the country I love, even if it is a little hurt

Stars and Stripes still call for freedom

About evil about tyranny

Blood flowed

For our freedom

Sacrificed everything for this nation

I still believe in us

My America

He also has a song called “Brave,” which is about standing up for freedom.

On July 1, he posted his song “Brave” with a video, saying, “The 4th of July is MUCH more than just a day to celebrate with BBQs 🌭 and fireworks 🎆 It’s about acknowledging and standing up for the freedoms we were granted BECAUSE of this day! 🫡,” he said. “Don’t let fear hold you back. Keep the flame of freedom burning ALL year long! 🔥”

Gokey will release a new album on July 26th that will also address other issues he is passionate about.

Movieguide® recently reported:

Christian AMERICAN IDOL alumnus Danny Gokey is set to make waves with his new album “Sound of Heaven.”

The album “features his usual optimistic, hopeful songs, but also a track that warns of the deceptive nature of evil and calls on the church to recognize the lies society has fallen for,” Crosswalk Headlines reported on June 26.
