Filming of Necaxa TV series begins with help from Wrexham owners
Interest in TV shows about sports has increased recently. Formula 1: Driving for survival To Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynastywe’ve gotten behind-the-scenes glimpses of many of our favorite sports teams, so when Ryan Reynolds, Rob McElhenney, and Eva Longoria teamed up to create a TV series about Liga MX club Necaxa, we weren’t entirely surprised.
Like Wrexham, Necaxa is a team that has been around for over a century. The club has potential but has not performed as well on the pitch as it could. As such, the club needed new energy, something to inspire its performances and who else should be tasked with this endeavour if not the two individuals who have been doing just that since 2020?
Reynolds and McElhenney have proven their success with Welcome to Wrexham. The third season of the Emmy award-winning docuseries was released in May and a fourth season is in the works. The untitled Necaxa series will likely have a similar style to the Wrexham show. Plus, it will feature team co-owner and actress Longoria, who also serves as executive producer. Essentially, the people behind this project are experts in television production and making smart business decisions.
Necaxa hopes to benefit from the “Welcome to Wrexham” concept
Wrexham was once a struggling team, as was Necaxa, so it’s likely the show will document the team’s rise and revival. It’s a classic rags-to-riches story, only in this case the team isn’t completely broke, but rather on the brink of total collapse. Reynolds and McElhenney have already purchased a stake in the club and are now among the owners, alongside Arsenal legend Mesut Ozil and Odell Beckham Jr. of the Miami Dolphins.
The show will be in both English and Spanish, so you can already tell that they are expecting a worldwide success. Much of the show will be unstructured, probably because we have two comic legends from unscripted movies. Reynolds has had great success in his acting career outside of the business world. His upcoming film Deadpool 3 is expected to break various records. McElhenney is also a successful actor and is widely known for the hit show it’s always sunny in PhiladelphiaTherefore, fans can expect more quality entertainment and humor in this new series.
Given their previous successes in film and television, their contribution to the production of the Necaxa series could make it another hit show. The duo has cracked the reality TV format and they saw something in Necaxa.
As for production, this project will be a collaboration between various studios. Hyphenate Media Group, Maximum Effort Productions, and 3 Arts Entertainment have been hired to produce the show. If you’ve been following Reynolds for a while, you know that Maximum Effort Productions is one of his many investments. With it, he created the various commercials for his gin company, which Reynolds recently sold for $610 million, which earned him over $450 million in profit, including Mint Mobile. Don’t be surprised if this show wins another Emmy.
