Ryan Reynolds and Shawn Levy on how Hugh Jackman’s voice memo “released” ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ – WEIS

In a long three-way video interview with diversitydirector Shawn Levy And Ryan Reynolds described how Hugh Jackman “unlocked” what was Deadpool and Wolverine.

While Jackman’s “revelation” that he wanted to give Wolverine his claws again after the 2016 film, Logan was already discussed, they revealed new information about how important he was to the making of the film.

Levy said he and Reynolds had been on a Deadpool 3“but it never worked.”

“We don’t want to go into too much detail about the creative part, but Hugh … unlocked the most important part when he sent us a 10-minute voice message,” says Ryan.

“It was more like 17 minutes,” Levy corrected.

“That’s a scary statement to hear from anyone. You think, ’17 minutes?!'” Ryan exclaimed.

Jackman says: “It was unclear. I learned that from my acting teacher: When you read a play or a script for the first time, write down everything you’re thinking because you’ll never have those eyes again. So I read the script and immediately did a voice memo. I didn’t call in because I wanted it to just be my ‘blah blah blah’ with no questions. And 16 minutes of that is crap, but there’s probably one minute at the end that (works).”

Whatever that was, the trio doesn’t say, but it did work. “Suddenly it sparked one revelation after another,” says Ryan. “So, Hugh, you were also instrumental in writing the film. One of my favorite parts of your character in the film comes from that voice memo.”

They also hinted at whether we will see any of the heroes again in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. “We’ll see,” Reynolds admits.

Deadpool and Wolverine opens on July 26th.
