Michigan Football’s three Big Ten Media Days representatives have been announced

With Big Ten Football Media Days beginning July 23, the conference announced each school’s three player representatives for the event later this month.

As usual, Michigan sends a trio of seniors to Indianapolis to represent the program: Running Back Donovan EdwardsDefender Paige, Makari and Tight End/H-Back Max Bredeson. They will join the new head coach Sherron Moorewho will also be appearing at the annual event for the first time.

Edwards’ addition should come as no surprise to college football or Michigan fans. Not only is the senior one of the cover athletes for the EA Sports College Football 25 video game, he has been a leader for this program over the past two seasons. Edwards’ selflessness and willingness to put the team before himself was especially evident last season, as he saw fellow tailback Blake Corum get most of the Wolverines’ runs – especially in the end zone.

Edwards didn’t have the season many predicted he would have in 2023, but he publicly maintained a positive attitude throughout the year. His selflessness paid off in the national championship game when Edwards became the first player in BCS or College Football Playoff history to throw two touchdowns of 40 or more yards in a single championship game. On those two long runs, we saw Edwards return to the form we saw throughout his sophomore season in 2022, and he’ll get his chance to become Michigan’s top running back in the fall.

Career statistics: 294 carries, 1,662 rushing yards, 15 rushing touchdowns, 5.7 yards per carry, 68 receptions, 714 receiving yards, 3 receiving touchdowns, 10.5 yards per catch, 3-for-3 passing, 108 passing yards, one passing touchdown

While he hasn’t received the attention and recognition of guys like Will Johnson or Rod Moore, Paige has been a quiet but reliable leader on the back end of Michigan’s defense. The senior brings 17 starts and 41 games played into the 2024 season and will lead the Wolverines’ secondary alongside Johnson this fall. Paige was the team’s fifth-leading tackler in 2023 and seventh-leading tackler in 2022, with 41 in each season. After Moore suffered an ACL injury in spring practice, Paige’s role in Michigan’s 2024 secondary will be even more important.

Career statistics: 41 solo tackles, 90 total tackles, one tackle for loss, one sack, five pass breakups, one interception, one fumble recovery

Finally, when it comes to unsung heroes, you couldn’t find a better example than Bredeson. The 6-foot-2, 230-pound former walk-on has fought for every opportunity he’s earned at Michigan. Hard-working, down-to-earth guys like Bredeson represent everything this program has been about for the past three seasons. His stats won’t blow anyone away, but Bredeson is a smashmouth blocker who was key to the Wolverines’ success running the football in 2022 and 2023. He brings 30 games of experience into his fourth year in Ann Arbor.

Career statistics: seven receptions, 97 receiving yards

With four West Coast schools joining the conference this year, Big Ten Media Days will be a three-day event (July 23-25) for the first time since its inception. Michigan will join Indiana, Maryland, Minnesota, Oregon and Washington on Thursday, July 25. Ohio State headlines opening day on Tuesday, July 23, alongside Illinois, Northwestern, Purdue, Rutgers and Wisconsin. Iowa, Michigan State, Nebraska, Penn State, UCLA and USC will join on Wednesday, July 24.
