Listen to CITY AND COLOUR team up with TRENCH to play a country-inspired hardcore song

Hardcore experimenters TRENCH from Calgary, Alberta, are refining their caustic approach even further for their next album and have just unveiled an alternative country-inspired collaborative track with City and Colour, the Canadian mainstays fronted by Alexisonfire guitarist and singer Dallas Green.

The band’s song “DUST TO BONE”, which will appear on the upcoming second LP Between upside down worldsstill delivers guitar-smashing mosh riffs and a harrowing blast section, although vocalist Jay Breen’s raw screams are also complemented by Green’s silky-smooth croons midway through the song. Likewise, C&C’s pedal steel player Matt Kelly glides lithe beauty through the out-of-tune chunks of regular TRENCH guitarist Cole Young.

“I’ve learned that the only way to grow artistically is to learn from your mistakes and fully embrace them,” Breen explained in a statement about the country crossover, which you can stream above.

“‘DUST TO BONE’ is about picking up the pieces of past mistakes and turning them into something positive. We had the idea of ​​using Dallas Green’s voice on a heavy song, so we set out to create something that he would actually find interesting enough to participate in. The song captures all aspects of Trench – from emotional and beautiful parts to a devastating breakdown, this song has it all.”

“DUST TO BONE” was preceded by Between Inverted World’s squeaky, synth-laden single “DIVIDED EXISTENCE”. The album, which follows in 2022, Wrapped in chrome EP and debut album 2020 blossomalso features appearances by Johannes Perrson of Cult of Luna (“MY COLD BLOOD”), Comeback Kid singer Andrew Neufeld (“PATH OF PAIN”) and Kyle Ball of WAKE (“CHROME SACRAMENT”). The record will be released on August 16th via New Damage Records.
