Lead singer of a 90s rock band has to undergo emergency surgery and cancels concerts

After lead singer Josh Homme had to undergo emergency surgery, Queens of the Stone Age had to cancel several European performances planned for July.

The band announced this joint decision on Tuesday, July 9, via their Instagram account and explained that despite all efforts, a continuation was no longer feasible.

“QOTSA regrets to announce that Josh Homme must return to the US immediately for emergency surgery,” the band said in a statement on Instagram. “We have tried everything to hold on and play for you, but continuing is no longer an option.”

Eight dates in Europe are affected by the emergency, but the band will still perform next month, according to QOTSA’s official website. They will return on August 8 for the Way Out West Festival in Gothenburg, Sweden.

The band will secure additional dates for the North American leg of their tour later this year. QOTSA will play back-to-back shows at Boston’s MGM Music Hall on September 27 and 28.

“The Queens are devastated that we cannot play for you,” read the caption of their first Instagram post. “We apologize for any inconvenience and share in your frustration and disappointment.”

Although urgent measures have been taken, the reasons for these measures remain unanswered. Homme, 51, has had some health issues in the past, including a cancer diagnosis last year, but the singer has kept further details private.

Festival ticket holders are asked to check the respective festival website for up-to-date information. Attendees of headline shows are asked to hold on to their tickets and will be contacted directly at the point of purchase for further information.
