On July 8, 2024, Russian forces launched a missile attack on Kyiv, hitting the Okhmatdyt Children’s Hospital. A total of 33 people were killed and 117 injured in the Russian missile attack on Kyiv on July 8.
The Ukrainian OSINT agency Molfar, in cooperation with unnamed sources within the Ukrainian government structures, claimed to have identified key Russian military personnel allegedly involved in the attack. Euromaidan Press was unable to verify this information.
The attack was carried out using Kh-101 cruise missiles fired from Tu-95MS strategic bombers based at the Engels-2 airbase near Smolensk. Investigators found missile fragments with serial numbers matching this type of weapon on the hospital grounds.
The attack is believed to have been carried out by the 22nd Heavy Bomber Division based at Engels-2. The key personnel identified include:
– Colonel Nikolai Varpakhovich, Division Commander
– Lieutenant Colonel Pavel Burdakov, commander of the Tu-160
– Major Vladislav Malinin, senior navigator
– Lieutenant Colonel Alexey Kashlev, senior officer
In addition, members of the 52nd Guards Heavy Bomber Regiment based at Shaykovka Airfield are said to have been involved in the attack, including:
– Colonel Oleg Timoshin, Regiment Commander
– Major Alexey Ivanenko, commander of an aviation unit
– Lieutenant Colonel Igor Gorbatko, Deputy Commander for Personnel
